Haymatlos, 2026
clay, epoxy resin, Plexiglas (or acrylic cube)36 × 18 cm (bird) / 40 × 40 × 40 cm (overall) @annalaudel gallery
The Haymatlos installation emerged from the stories of pushbacks she heard at the Meriç River in 2020. The accounts she encountered made the artist feel that people attempting to cross the border were injured like birds striking an invisible pane of glass and falling to the ground.Haymatlos means stateless, without a homeland or a place to belong. In this installation, the bird becomes a metaphor not only for migration and displacement, but also for the indestructible desire for freedom that continues to exist within the human being.
